Description
Measurement of metanephrine in urine serves as a diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of an adrenal gland tumor – pheochromocytoma, as well as neuroblastomas and ganglioneuromas. These tumors are characterized by excessive production of catecholamines, which leads to an increased level of metanephrine in the body. The test measures the amount of metanephrines in the urine that the body produces over 24 hours.
When and who needs the test?
- In case of suspected pheochromocytoma.
- In arterial hypertension that responds poorly to treatment.
- To assess the effectiveness of pheochromocytoma treatment.
