Description
Whooping cough is an infectious disease characterized by inflammatory processes in the upper respiratory tract and bouts of choking cough.
Whooping cough is characterized by: dry spastic cough, which has a paroxysmal course, accompanied by a deep wheezing, vomiting, cyanosis of the nasolabial triangle, acrocyanosis, weakness, runny nose, lacrimation, body temperature is mostly normal, fever is possible, in a clinical blood test – leukocytosis.
Excited by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis, which produces toxins that irritate mucous membranes and provoke coughing. The human body reacts to the presence of bacteria and its toxins by releasing antibodies. Determination of IgA antibody levels confirms the role of the bacterium Bordetella pertussis in the development of the disease.
The assay is used to diagnose whooping cough and differential diagnosis of respiratory infections.
When and who needs the test?
- recommended for clinical manifestations of whooping cough, suspected whooping cough after contact with the patient;
- in differential diagnosis with acute respiratory viral diseases, measles, bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma.
