Description
The immunoblot (blot analysis) for IgG antibodies to Treponema pallidum is a highly specific confirmatory test for the diagnosis of syphilis. It is used after an initial positive screening test to establish a definitive diagnosis.
When and who needs the test?
- After a positive treponemal screening result (IgG, TPHA, EIA).
- In case of discrepancies between treponemal and non-treponemal tests.
- To clarify the diagnosis in pregnant women and before reproductive interventions.
- When high analytical specificity is required (donation, surgical interventions, oncopathologies).
- As part of a comprehensive assessment of the dynamics or reinfection.
