2139. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2, IgM antibodies
Description
Herpes type 2 causes lesions in the groin, buttocks, and lower extremities. The immune system reacts to the presence of a virus in the body by releasing antibodies specific to it. In the acute phase of the disease, IgM antibodies are actively secreted.
Their determination in the blood makes it possible to confirm the role of HSV type 2 in the development of herpes. The test is used for the diagnosis of acute herpes and its differential diagnosis with other infectious diseases.
When and who needs the test?
- preparation for pregnancy (recommended for both partners);
- signs of intrauterine infection, placental insufficiency;
- HIV infection, lymphoproliferative diseases, immunodeficiency states;
- differential diagnosis of urogenital infections;
- vesicular herpetiform rash.
