Description
An IgM test for herpes simplex virus type 1 helps identify an acute or recent infection – cold sores or recurrent herpes. The test is recommended at the first symptoms or if primary infection is suspected.
When and who needs the test?
- If new rashes appear on the lips, face, or mouth.
- If primary HSV-1 infection is suspected.
- For pregnant women – at the first symptoms of herpes, to assess the potential risk to the fetus.
- For patients with weakened immune systems, who may have a complicated course of the infection.
- For frequent herpes recurrences, to confirm the active stage.
