1295. Allergen. Extract. Parrot feathers (e213), IgE antibodies
Description
Parrot is one of the species belonging to the family Parrot. An allergic reaction occurs in sensitized individuals when in contact with a parrot or when cleaning cells. Parrot feathers are an inhalation allergen and can also enter the body as a component of house dust. An allergic reaction is possible even with a single contact with the allergen. Since bird allergens can be transmitted with human clothing, equipment, household items, they can be present even in places where there are no parrots.
Therefore, people who are sensitive to these allergens can suffer from allergies, even without direct contact with them, but simply being close to humans, sometimes being near birds. In general, allergies to parrots are provoked by proteins-antigens, which are contained in the feathers, as well as in the feces of birds. Small mites that parasitize the skin and feathers of parrots also cause an allergic reaction. This option is possible in the case of keeping birds at home.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction usually occur very quickly – within minutes or hours. Allergic rhinitis may occur in the form of sneezing, itchy nose, rhinorrhea, conjunctivitis with edema, redness, itchy eyes, tearing, oropharyngeal reactions – itching in the throat, cough.
Characteristic signs of bronchospasm – a feeling of congestion in the chest, cough, shortness of breath with difficulty exhaling, in severe cases, asthma. There may be swelling and itching of the skin, various rashes. In the case of prolonged contact develops alveolitis – an inflammatory lesion of the alveoli of the lungs, which causes in the absence of treatment of their fibrosis and signs of respiratory failure. The possibility of cross-reactions with allergens of canaries, chickens, pigeons has been established.
