Description
α-1-antitrypsin is a substance synthesized in the liver, which is responsible for inhibiting the activity of a number of enzymes (trypsin, kallikrein, elastase and some others).
Lack of α-1-antitrypsin is manifested by the development of pulmonary emphysema and cirrhosis of the liver. All inflammatory processes in the liver are accompanied by an increase in the levels of α-1-antitrypsin, therefore, the study of the levels of this indicator is used to diagnose hepatitis and search for the root cause of the development of emphysema.
Α-1-antitrypsin should be determined in combination with ALT, AST, ALP, thymol test and other acute phase indicators.
