Description
Electrolytes help transport nutrients into cells and remove metabolic waste products from them, maintain water balance, and regulate the necessary acidity level. Electrolyte imbalance is associated with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. Combined measurement of sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride levels allows calculation of the anion gap – the difference between the concentrations of anions and cations in the blood.
Creatinine is a waste product that provides the body with energy for muscle contraction. Almost all creatinine is excreted by the kidneys, making its blood concentration an important indicator of kidney function. The amount of creatinine produced depends on total body mass, particularly muscle mass.
When and who needs the test?
For everyone for screening and assessing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, as well as evaluating kidney function and electrolyte balance as part of an annual check‑up
