Description
Urine albumin testing is often used to screen and diagnose kidney disease, as well as monitor disease progression and kidney response to treatment.
When and who needs the test?
A test for the early detection of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is recommended for everyone, as the disease may not have any symptoms in its early stages. It is especially important for people with increased risk factors for:
- diabetes;
- high blood pressure;
- heart disease or heart failure;
- obesity.
The test is also recommended for individuals:
- over 60 years of age;
- with a family history of CKD or kidney failure;
- with a history of acute kidney injury;
- smoking.
The test is also recommended for people with kidney disease, hereditary or autoimmune conditions, severe infections, and other urinary tract pathologies.
