PCR testing for Candida albicans, glabrata, and krusei from endometrial scrapings is a sensitive method for detecting fungal infections in the uterine cavity. It is recommended for chronic endometritis, infertility, recurrent STIs, or failure of antifungal therapy.
When and who needs the test?
- Women with suspected chronic endometritis (especially if asymptomatic).
- In cases of recurrent miscarriages, miscarriages, or unsuccessful IVF attempts.
- In cases of unexplained infertility.
- In cases of vaginal/cervical candidiasis that is refractory to treatment.
- To rule out a fungal infection before invasive uterine procedures (hysteroscopy, invasive intrauterine interventions).
